เจ้ามดแสนขยันกับเจ้าตั๊กแตนแสนสำราญ ต่างเต้นรำกันอย่างสนุกสนาน ในวันอันแสนอบอุ่นพวกมันทั้งสองตัวเที่ยวเล่นกันในยามฤดูร้อนทุกวัน

จนเมื่อแสงแดดแห่งฤดูร้อนแสนร้อนกำลังจะหมดไป วันหนึ่งมดแสนขยันจึงพูดกับตั๊กแตนแสนสำราญว่า

“เรามาเตรียมที่อยู่อุ่นๆ และกักตุนอาหารแสนอร่อยไว้กินกันเถอะ”

แต่เจ้าตั๊กแตนที่เอาแต่ชอบเที่ยวสำราญกลับบอกว่า

“เรายังมีเวลาอีกตั้งเยอะ เรามาร้องเพลงแล้วก็เต้นรำกันเถอะ” เจ้าตั๊กแตนเอ่ยออกมาด้วยความขี้เกียจ

แต่เจ้ามดแสนขยันทำงานก็บอกอีกว่า

“เราไม่มีเวลาทำอย่างนั้นหรอก พวกเราสัตว์ทุกตัวต้องการอาหารและที่อยู่อันอบอุ่น หากไม่ทำแล้วใครจะมาทำให้ล่ะ คิดให้ดีๆนะ” เจ้ามดแสนขยันตักเตือน แต่เจ้าตั๊กแตนไม่สนใจ มันยังงเต้นรำต่อไป

ฝ่ายเจ้ามดแสนขยันจึงเริ่มตั้งหน้าตั้งตาทำงานทันที

ที่ผืนดินซึ่งปกคลุมไปด้วยทุ่งหญ้าสีเขียว ยังอีต้นโอ๊คสูงตระหง่าน ที่โคนต้นนั้นเจ้ามดแสนขยันตั้งหน้าตั้งตาทำงานอย่างไม่ย่อท้อต่อความเหน็ดเหนื่อย มันใช้เท้าน้อยๆ แต่แข็งแรงนั้นขุดรูลงไปใต้ดิน และเข้าไปสร้างรังอันอบอุ่นของมัน ทีละเล็กทีละน้อย แล้วก็เก็บอาหารมากักตุน

ความขยันของเจ้ามดน้อยนั้นไม่ได้เกิดขึ้นเพียงวันเดียว แต่ทุกๆวัน วันละหลายชั่วโมง ที่เป็นแบบนี้เพราะมดน้อยเป็นเด็กดี เชื่อฟังคำสอนของพ่อแม่ว่าเป็นเด็กดีต้องรู้จักขยันและอดทนเพื่อนาคตที่ดี

เวลาผ่านไป ด้วยความขยัน เจ้ามดน้อยยังมีอาหารกิน มีที่นอนอุ่นๆที่มันสร้างขึ้นมาด้วยความภาคภูมิใจ ผิดกับเจ้าตั๊กแตนแสนสำราญลิบลับ

เจ้าตั๊กแตนเริ่มคิดหาทางออก มันคิดถึงเพื่อนรัก เจ้ามดแสนขยัน เจ้าตั๊กแตนจึงตัดสินใจเดินทางออกไปหามดน้อยแสนขยันทันที

“โอ๊ย ฉันหนาวเหลือเกิน ฉันจะเดินไม่ไหวอยู่แล้ว ช่วยฉันด้วย เมื่อไรจะถึงสักทีนะเนี่ย โอ๊ย โอ๊ย ช่วยด้วย ช่วยด้วย โอ๊ย ช่วยด้วย”

ในที่สุดเจ้าตั๊กแตนเดินทางมาถึงรังของมดน้อยเพื่อนรักของมัน พลางร้องเรียกด้วยเสียงแหบแห้ง แถมไม่สบายอย่างหนัก

“ช่วยด้วย มดน้อย ช่วยฉันด้วย”

“อ้าว เจ้าตั๊กแตนเพื่อนรัก เกิดอะไรขึ้น”

เจ้ามดเห็นเพื่อนของมันเปียกและหนาวสั่น เจ้ามดจึงมีน้ำใจให้ตั๊กแต่เข้ามานอนในรังอันอบอุ่นของมันเป็นการชั่วคราว

พอรุ่งเช้าเจ้าตั๊กแตนตื่นขึ้นมา เจ้ามดช่วยแบ่งปันอาหารที่มีเพียงน้อยนิดให้เจ้าตั๊กแตนกิน แต่เจ้าตั๊กแตนกลับไม่อิ่มร้องขออาหารเพิ่ม เพราะลืมไปว่านั่นไม่ใช่ของของตน

ตั๊กแตนลืมคำที่แม่เคยสอนไว้จนหมดสอ้น ว่าต้องไม่เอาของๆคนอื่นมาเป็นของๆตัวเอง มดน้อยบอกกับตั๊กแตนว่าไมา่สามารถให้อาหารกับตั๊กแตนได้มากกว่านี้แล้ว เพราะมดน้อยเก็บสะสมอาหารไว้เพียงพอแค่ตัวเดียวเท่านั้น

ตั๊กแตนรู้สึกสิ้นหวังและหมดหนทาง

“เฮ่อ ตั๊กแตนเศร้าจัง”

สิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นเป็นเพราะตั๊กแตนประมาท คนประมาทเป็นคนที่ไม่รู้จักเตรียมพร้อมสำหรับวันข้างหน้า และคนประมาทก็มักจะพบกับความยุ่งยากและความเจ็บปวดในภายหลัง ทั้งที่เจ้ามดเคยเตือนตั๊กแตนแล้วว่า ให้เตรียมการตั้งแต่แรก จะได้มีที่อยู่และมีอาหารกินในวันที่แสนลำบาก แต่ด้วยความเป็เพื่อนกัน เจ้ามดจึงพูดกับตั๊กแตนไปว่า

“เจ้าตั๊กแตนเพื่อนรัก เราจะให้คาถาที่จะคุ้มครองบไม่ให้เจ้าเกิดความประมาทได้อีก จำให้ดีนะ”

One summer day, the warmth of the sunlight shone across the vast green fields, and a gentle breeze blew, causing the grass blades to flutter in the wind, swaying joyously. With the sweet, fragrant grass and the bright, clear sky, a sound of joyful singing could be heard in the wind.

The hard-working ant and the cheerful grasshopper danced happily. The two of them hung out on each warm summer day.

One day when the hot summer sun was about to vanish, the hard-working ant said to the happy grasshopper,

In the land covered with green fields was a towering oak tree. At the base of that tree, the hard-working ant worked tirelessly against exhaustion. It used its small but strong feet to dig a hole underground and crawled in to build a warm nest little by little. It also collected food to hoard.

The diligence of the little ant didn't happen in just one day but every day, for several hours a day. This is because the little ant was a good boy. He had always obeyed his parents' teachings that a good child must know how to work hard and be patient for a better future.

As time passed and with hard work, the little ant still had enough food to eat. There was a warm bed, which he proudly made, unlike the blissful grasshopper.

Far in the south, the lazy grasshopper who did not work hard was now hungry because there was no food to eat.

((Sigh) I'm tired; I'm lonely; I'm hurt, oh. I'm tired; I'm lonely; I'm hungry, oh. It's torture; it's torture).

The grasshopper began to think of a way out. He thought of his dear friend, the hard-working ant. The grasshopper immediately decided to go out to find the ant.

The grasshopper felt hopeless and helpless.

What happened was the result of the grasshopper’s recklessness. A reckless person is someone unable to prepare for the day ahead. Reckless people tend to find trouble and pain later on. Even though the ant had warned the grasshopper from the start to prepare a place to live and food to eat on difficult days, he didn’t follow the ant’s advice. Owing to their friendship, the ant said to the grasshopper,
