นิทานสนุกๆ ที่จะปลูกฝังเรื่องความเมตตาและการให้อภัย ผ่านเรื่องราวของหนูน้อยตัวเล็กกับราชสีห์เจ้าป่าตัวใหญ่ เมื่อเจ้าหนูบังเอิญไปนอนบนตัวของราชสีห์เข้า มาติดตามกันว่าราชสีห์จะจัดการอย่างไรดีกับเจ้าหนูโชคร้ายกัน
ท่ามกลางผืนป่าสีทองอันแสนจะกว้างใหญ่ บรรดาสัตว์ต่างๆต่างอาศัยร่วมกันอย่างมีความสุข ที่เนินเขาสีแดงที่ถูกล้อมไปด้วยทุ่งหญ้า ราชสีห์ผู้เป็นราชาแห่งผืนป่าตัวหนึ่งกำลังนอนกลางวันอย่างสบายอารมณ์ มันเหยียดขาแล้วก็เอาตัวแนบพื้นก่อนที่จะกรนเบา ๆ
บ่ายวันเดียวกันนั่นเอง เจ้าหนูตัวกลมตัวหนึ่งก็กำลังเร่งรีบที่จะกลับบ้าน เพราะว่ามันน่ะออกมาเที่ยวเล่นตั้งแต่เช้าแล้ว พงหญ้าสีทองที่สูงท่วมหัวทำให้เจ้าหนูตัวกลมต้องเดินผ่านทุ่งหญ้าด้วยความเหน็ดเหนื่อย เพราะต้องแหวกกอหญ้าสูงไปตลอดทาง
(ฟันฉันแข็ง ขมเหมือนขวาน แทะๆๆ กัน แทะๆ ได้ทุกอย่าง
เกือบจะเย็นอยู่แล้ว เจ้าหนูตัวกลมยังไปไม่ถึงไหนเลย มันจึงเร่งฝีเท้าให้เร็วขึ้น หวังว่าจะผ่านทุ่งหญ้าให้กลับถึงบ้านได้โดยเร็ว มันเดินข้ามพงทุ่งหญ้าที่สูงท่วมหัว จนมาถึงพงหญ้าที่เตี้ยลงกว่าเดิม
แต่เอ๊ะ ทำไมมันดูหนาแน่นกว่าเดิมมาก เจ้าหนูยังไม่แน่ใจ มันตะเกียกตะกายๆ ผ่านกอหญ้านั้นไปโดยเร็ว แต่กอหญ้านั้นก็หนาแน่นจนเจ้าหนูต้องบ่นออกมาว่า
“อื้ออออ เจ้ากอหญ้านี่มันหนาจริงๆเลย แต่เอ๊ะ ทำไมพื้นที่ตรงนี้มันนุ่มๆๆๆ เนี่ย ดูสิเนี่ยๆ” หนูพยายามเอาเท้าย่ำลงไปบนพื้นแรงๆ ให้หายสงสัย แต่ยิ่งย่ำแรงพื้นก็ยิ่งขยับจนยืนไม่ติด
“เย้ยยยยยย อะไรๆๆ อะไรกันเนี่ย” พื้นขยับเอียงจนเจ้าหนูตัวกลมกลิ้งตกลงบนพื้นดินสีแดงจนฝุ่นตลบ
“ทะ ทะ ทะ ทะ ทะ ท่านราชสีห์” ที่แท้แล้วทุ่งหญ้าที่กลิ้งตกลงมาก็คือขนแผงคอของเจ้าราชสีห์ที่กำลังนอนหลับสบายอยู่นั่นเอง ราชสีห์ตื่นขึ้นมาด้วยความหงุดหงิด ร้องคำรามเสียงดังสนั่นลั่นป่าและเอ่ยออกมาอย่างเกรี้ยวกราดว่า
“ใคร ใครกันบังอาจมารบกวนเวลานอนกลางวันของข้า”
(เจ้าหนูตัวน้อย ตัวกระจ้อย รู้มั้ยฉันคือใคร ฉันคือราชสีห์ผู้ยิ่งใหญ่ เจ้าแห่งป่าดงพงไพร (เสียงคำราม))
พูดจบราชสีห์ก็ใช้อุ้งเท้าพร้อมกรงเล็บอันใหญ่ตบลงบนตัวเจ้าหนูตัวกลมนั้น กรงเล็บอันใหญ่กลายเป็นซี่กรงขังที่ขังเจ้าหนูตัวกลมไว้ใต้อุ้งเท้าของราชสีห์
“เจ้านี่เองเหรอที่บังอาจมารบกวนการนอนของข้า” เจ้าหนูยกมือขึ้นพนม ตาโต ตัวสั่นระริก ตกใจ หน้าซีดขาวจนแทบจะกลายเป็นหนูทดลอง ราชสีห์เห็นเจ้าหนูกลัวตัวสั่นแต่ก็ยังตะคอกต่อด้วยเสียงที่ดังอีกว่า
“ให้ข้ากินเป็นอาหารว่างซะดีมั้ยเนี่ย ตัวเล็กอย่างเจ้าเนี่ยข้ากินได้ทีละหลายตัวเลยแหละ” ราชสีห์พูดจบแล้วก็ยื่นหน้าเข้ามาใกล้กรงเล็บที่ขังเจ้าหนูตัวกลมไว้ จนลมหายใจของราชสีห์พัดเอาหูของเจ้าหนูลู่ไปตามแรงลม เจ้าหนูตัวกลมอ้อนวอนด้วยสีหน้าและน้ำเสียงสั่นเครือว่า
“ท่านราชสีห์ โปรดไว้ชีวิตข้าเถิดนะ ข้าไม่ได้ตั้งใจจะรบกวนท่านเลย ข้าเพียงแต่จะรีบเดินจนไม่ทันได้ระวัง ตัวข้าก็เล็กๆแค่นี้ ท่านราชสีห์กินเข้าไปก็ไม่อิ่มหรอก สู้ปล่อยข้าออกไปดีกว่า วันหนึ่งข้าอาจจะเป็นประโยชน์ต่อท่านก็ได้นะ”
ราชสีห์ได้ฟังเจ้าหนูตัวกลมพูดก็หัวเราะจนเสียงดังลั่นป่า ดังกว่าตอนที่คำรามครั้งแรกซะอีก
“เหอะ ๆๆ โอ๊ย เจ้าเนี่ยนะจะมาทำอะไรให้ข้าได้ เจ้ากระติ๊ดริ๊ดเท่านี้ เหอะๆๆ” ราชสีห์พูดไปหัวเราะไปด้วยความขบขันในคำพูดของเจ้าหนู
“แต่เอาล่ะๆ อันที่จริงตอนนี้ข้าก็เพิ่งอิ่มไป นับว่าเจ้าโชคดีละกัน เอา ไปๆๆๆ ข้าจะปล่อยเจ้าไป รีบไปให้พ้นๆ ข้า”
“โอ้ว ขอบคุณ ขอบคุณท่านราชสีห์มาก รับรองท่านจะไม่ผิดหวังที่ปล่อยข้าไป” หนูขอบคุณราชสีห์ครั้งแล้วครั้งเล่า จนราชสีห์ล้มตัวนอนเช่นเดิม เจ้าหนูตัวกลมจึงรีบตั้งหน้าตั้งตาวิ่งกลับบ้านอย่างรวดเร็ว
เวลาผ่านไปอย่างอ้อยอิ่งในป่าสีทองแห่งนี้ จนกระทั่งวันหนึ่งบนเนินเขาสีแดงแห่งเดิม ราชสีห์ค่อยๆเดินลงมาสู่ทุ่งหญ้าอย่างสุขุม เช้านี้มันตื่นมาด้วยความหิว ซ้ำได้กลิ่นเนื้อสดอันโอชะโชยมาตามลม ยิ่งเพิ่มอาการหิวให้รุนแรงจนท้องร้องจ๊อกๆ เจ้าป่าผู้ยิ่งใหญ่ต้องเยื้องย่างลงมาเดินตามกลิ่นด้วยความหิว ห่างไปไม่เท่าไหร่ ต้นตอของกลิ่นหอมอันโอชะนั้นก็ปรากฎตัวขึ้น มันเป็นก้อนเนื้อสุกก้อนใหญ่วางอยู่บนลานกว้างแห่งนั้น ราชสีห์เห็นก็ไม่รอช้า พุ่งกระโดดเข้าหอห้อนเนื้อชิ้นนั้นด้วยความหิวในทันที เพียงแค่รสสัมผัสแรกเมื่อราชสีห์ฝังเขี้ยวลงบนก้อนเนื้อ เสียงลั่นกราวของกิ่งไม้ก็ดังขึ้น ด้วยสัญชาตญาณของเจ้าป่า ราชสีห์รู้ตัวในทันทีว่าบัดนี้เจ้าป่าเสียท่าซะแล้ว
ไม่ทันจะได้ขยับตัว ตาข่ายผืนใหญ่ก็ร่วงลงมาคลุมร่างราชสีห์ไว้ เจ้าป่าพยายามดิ้นรนเพื่อจะหาช่องทารงรอด แต่ยิ่งดิ้นตาข่ายก็ยิ่งพันร่างจนแน่นหนาขึ้น ราชสีห์ไม่อาจทำอะไรได้นอกจากคำรามเสียงดังลั่นป่า
ที่โคนต้นไม้ใกล้ๆ กันนั้น เจ้าหนูตัวกลมกำลังเดินเล่นอยู่ เมื่อได้ยินเสียงราชสีห์คำราม มันรู้ในทันทีเลยว่าเวลาแห่งการตอบแทนบุญคุณมาถึงแล้ว
เจ้าหนูรีบวิ่งไปที่ต้นเสียงนั้นทันที มันวิ่งมาถึงข้างตัวราชสีห์ และเหมือนราชสีห์จะจำเจ้าหนูตัวกลมได้ มันเลยพยายามไม่สบตา คล้ายๆว่าจะอาย แต่เจ้าหนูตัวกลมก็เหมือนจะรู้ทันจึงรีบพูดตัดบทและปลอบใจไปว่า
“เอ่อ เออ เอาเหอะน่าๆ นะ ไม่ต้องอายไปหรอก เดี๋ยวข้าจะลองดูก่อนว่าข้าจะทำอะไรให้ท่านได้บ้างละกัน”
ไม่มีเสียงตอบใดๆ จากราชสีห์ มันมองดูเจ้าหนูตัวกลมด้วยสายตาที่ลดความดุดันลงไปมาก เปลี่ยนเป็นสายตาของความเอื้ออารีอย่างที่มันกำลังจะได้รับจากเจ้าหนูในขณะนี้
“เอ่อ เอ่อ ช่วยรบกวนอยู่นิ่งๆ นิดหนึ่งน้า แปปเดียวๆ” ว่าแล้วเจ้าหนูตัวกลมก็ใช้ฟันอันแหลมคมแทะตะข่ายผื่นนั้น มันแทะไปๆๆ จนทั่วตาข่าย ราชสีห์คันยุกยิกๆไปทั้งตัว เจ้าหนูตัวกลมถึงกลับจะต้องเอ่ยปากว่า
“จุ๊ๆๆ อยู่นิ่งๆ เดี๋ยวนายพรานก็จะมาแล้ว ข้าช่วยไม่ได้นา” จริงอย่างที่เจ้าหนูพูด ไม่ไกลจากตรงนั้นเอง นายพรานป่ากำลังเดินถือปืนมุ่งหน้ามาทางนี้อย่างรวดเร็ว เสียงฝูงสัตว์แตกตื่นวิ่งหนีได้ยินมาแต่ไกล เจ้าหนูรีบแทะตาข่ายเป็นการใหญ่
เสียงพรานป่ากำลังใกล้เข้ามาเรื่อยๆ แต่เจ้าหนูตัวกลมก็ยังตั้งหน้าตั้งตาแทะตาข่ายอย่างตั้งใจ ในที่สุดตาข่ายก็ขาดทันเวลาเป็นรูกว้างพอดี ทำให้ราชสีห์สลัดตัวหลุดออกมาได้ มันคำรามเสียงดังสนั่นป่าจนหยุดนายพรานไว้ไม่ให้ก้างล่วงเข้ามาใกล้ไปมากกว่านี้
เจ้าป่าผู้โชคร้ายกลายเป็นดีกล่าวขอบคุณในความช่วยเหลือของเจ้าหนูในครั้งนี้ เจ้าหนูเอ่ยตอบกลับราชสีห์ว่า
“ท่านก็เคยไว้ชีวิตข้านี่ ข้าก็ทำตามที่ข้าบอกแล้วว่าข้าจะมีประโยชน์ต่อท่านในวันหนึ่ง เห็นมั้ยล่ะ”
ราชสีห์ก้มหัวลงเล็กน้อยก่อนจะหันหลังออกไปที่โขดหินสีแดงอย่างสุขุมเช่นเคย ส่วนเจ้าหนูตัวอ้วนก็เดินยืดอกกลับบ้านอย่างผู้กล้าหาญ

The Lion and Mouse (นิทานเรื่องราชสีห์กับหนู ฉบับภาษาอังกฤษ)
Amid the vast golden forest lived animals happily together. On a red hill surrounded by grass fields, a lion, the king of the forest, was napping comfortably during the daytime. He stretched his legs and laid himself on the ground before snoring lightly.
That same afternoon, a chubby mouse was rushing to get home because he had been out playing since morning.
The golden grass that towered over his head caused the round mouse to walk through the field in exhaustion because he had to cut through the tall grass the whole way.
(My teeth are hard and sharp like an axe. Nibble, nibble, I can nibble through anything).
It was almost evening, but the chubby mouse still hadn't gotten anywhere yet, so he sped up his footsteps.
In hopes of returning home quickly, he walked across the grass that towered over his head until he reached an area shorter than the rest.
But hey, why did it look so much thicker than before? The mouse is still not sure. He scrambles quickly pass through the grass, but the grass is so dense that the mouse has to complain,
"Ugh, this clump of grass is really thick, but hey, why is this area so soft? Look at this". The mouse tried to stomp the ground to get rid of any doubt, but the more he stomped, the more the ground moved until he could no longer stand on it.
“Hmm? What, what, what is this?” The ground tilted until the chubby mouse rolled onto the red ground, throwing up dust.
"L, l, l, l, l, Lord Lion."
The grass that he rolled down from was actually the mane of the sleeping lion. The lion woke up in frustration and roared loudly throughout the forest, and said furiously,
“Who, who dares to disturb my nap time”?
(Little mouse, little mouse, do you know who I am? I am the great Lion, King of the jungle (roar).
After speaking, the lion slapped the chubby mouse with its paws and large claws.
“Is it you who dares to disturb my sleep”? The mouse raised his hands to pray, his eyes wide, and his body trembled in shock. His face was so pale that he had become a guinea pig. The lion saw the frightened mouse tremble but continued to shout in a loud voice,
“Would it be good for me to eat you as a snack? A small one like you; I can eat many at a time". The lion finished speaking and moved his face closer to the claw that had locked the chubby mouse until his breath blew the mouse's ears, making it sway in the wind. The chubby mouse begged with a trembling face and voice:
“Lord Lion, please spare my life. I didn't mean to disturb you at all. I was just walking so fast; I was not careful. I’m too small, so you will not be satisfied after eating me. It’s better to let me out. One day, I might be useful to you”.
The lion heard the chubby mouse speak and laughed until a loud noise filled the forest. Even louder than his first roar.
“Hahaha, what can you do for me? You tiny, little thing. Hahaha,” said the lion, laughing at the mouse’s words.
“But, well, I’m full right now. You better count your blessings. Go, go; I'll let you go. Hurry up and get away from me".
“Oh, thank you, thank you, Lord Lion. I'm sure you won't be disappointed in letting me go”. The mouse thanked the lion over and over again until the lion fell asleep as before. The chubby mouse quickly set his sights on running home.
Time lingered in this golden forest until one day; the lion walked calmly down the grass meadow on the same red hill. This morning he woke up hungry. The smell of delicious, fresh meat wafting in the wind intensified the feeling of hunger, which made his stomach growl. The mighty King of the Jungle had to stride down to follow the smell out of hunger. Not too far away, the source of that delicious fragrance appeared. A large lump of cooked meat lay in the vast meadow. Without hesitation, the lion immediately jumped into the mound of meat with hunger. When the lion embedded his fangs into the flesh, he heard twigs snap. Using the instincts of the King of the jungle, the lion immediately realized that he had now been defeated.
He moved no sooner than a large net fell and covered his body. The jungle King struggled to find a way to survive. But the more he wriggled the net, the tighter it became. The lion could do nothing but roar loudly through the forest.
A chubby mouse was taking a stroll at the base of a nearby tree. When he heard the lion's roar, he knew at once that the time had come to repay his gratitude.
The mouse immediately ran toward the source of the noise. It ran to the lion’s side, and it was as if the lion could recognize the chubby mouse, so he tried not to make eye contact out of embarrassment. The chubby mouse seemed to have realized this, so he interrupted the lion and consoled him.
"Uh, well, well, don't be embarrassed. Let me try and see what I can do for you”.
There was no reply from the lion. His gaze at the mouse had turned from ferocity into kindness as it was about to receive the same from the little mouse at this moment.
"Uh, please stay still for a moment, just a moment." Then the chubby mouse gnawed at the rash net with his sharp teeth. It gnawed and gnawed throughout the whole net. The lion’s whole body itched and twitched, so the chubby mouse had to say,
“Shhhhh, stay still; the hunter will come soon. I won't be able to help you".
It was true what the little mouse said. Not far from where they were, the hunter was quickly heading their way with a gun. The sound of animal herds fleeing frighteningly could be heard from afar. The mouse quickly gnawed through the net.
The sound of the hunter was getting closer and closer, but the chubby mouse was determined to gnaw at the net. The net finally tore in time into a wide hole, causing the lion to shake it off. It roared with a deafening sound through the forest that stopped the hunter from getting any closer.
The formerly unlucky forest king had turned lucky again and thanked the little mouse for his help this time. The mouse replied,
“You have spared my life. I just did as I said that I would be useful to you one day, see”?
The lion bowed his head slightly before calmly turning his back to the red rock as usual, and the chubby little mouse walked back home bravely with his chest puffed out.
