โมโมทาโร่ เด็กชายลูกท้อ (Momotaro) นิทานพื้นบ้านญี่ปุ่น เล่าเรื่องราวของเด็กชายผู้กล้าหาญออกเดินทางไปปราบยักษ์ที่สร้างความเดือดร้อนให้กับหมู่บ้าน การเดินทางของโมโมทาโร่จะเป็นอย่างไร ไปติดตามกันเลย
กาลครั้งหนึ่งนานมาแล้ว ณ หมู่บ้านแห่งหนึ่งในประเทศญี่ปุ่น ที่นั่นยังมีสองตายายที่น่ารักและเป็นคนดี ช่วยกันทำมาหากินอย่างขยันขันแข็ง ทั้งคู่อยู่ด้วยกันมานาน แต่ก็ไม่มีลูกสักคน จนเวลาผ่านเลยมาจนถึงวัยแก่เฒ่า คุณตาคุณยายจึงได้ร้องขอต่อสวรรค์ ให้ช่วยส่งลูกมาให้สักคน
“สองตายายนี้เป็นคนดี มีจิตใจอ่อนโยน ไม่เคยทำความชั่ว อืม เห็นทีเทวดาอย่างเรา จะต้องให้ของขวัญแก่พวกเขาสักหน่อยแล้ว”
♫ ใครทำดีก็จะได้ดี แม้วันนี้ไม่เห็นผล แต่ทุกคนต้องยึดมั่น ในความดี ลัล ลัล ล้า แล้ววันหนึ่งความดีจะนำพาเราให้ได้ดี จะนำพาเราให้ได้ดี ♫
“โอมเพี้ยง”
ในที่สุดสวรรค์ก็เกิดสงสารและเห็นแก่ความดีที่ตายายทั้งสองเฝ้าทำเสมอมา
วันนั้นคุณยายไปนั่งซักผ้าอยู่ที่ริมน้ำตามปกติก็มีผลไม้ลูกใหญ่ลอยตามน้ำมา มันคือ
“ลูกท้อยักษ์” คุณยายอุทานออกมา แล้วก็วางมือจากการซักผ้า รีบหาทางขนเอาลูกท้อยักษ์นั้นกลับบ้าน เพื่อเอาไปให้คุณตาดู
คุณยายเก็บลูกท้อมาบ้านแล้วร้องเรียกคุณตา
“ตาๆ มาดูนี่เร็ว”
“โอ้ว นี่มัน”
“ลูกท้อยักษ์” (พูดพร้อมกัน)
“ใช่แล้วจ้ะตา”
“แหม ใหญ่ขนาดนี้ งั้นดีเลย ผ่าออกมากินเป็นอาหารเย็นเลยเป็นไง”
แต่ยังไม่ทันที่คุณตาจะผ่าลูกท้อยักษ์นั้น กลับเกิดแสงสว่างอัศจรรย์เกิดขึ้นรอบๆลูกท้อ เมื่อแสงสว่างนั้นจางลง ลูกท้อก็แยกออกเป็นสองซีก แล้วคุณตาคุณยายก็ต้องประหลาดใจขึ้นไปอีกเพราะมีเด็กชายตัวน้อยๆคนหนึ่งอยู่ในลูกท้อยักษ์นั้น เด็กชายตัวน้อยๆ เปล่งเสียงร้องดัง แสดงถึงสุขภาพที่แข็งแรง สองตายายเชื่อว่าสวรรค์ส่งเด็กคนนี้มาให้เป็นลูกของพวกเขาทั้งคู่ จึงตั้งชื่อเด็กคนนี้ว่า โมโมทาโร่ ที่แปลว่าเด็กชายลูกท้อนั่นเอง

สองตายายดีใจมาก ทั้งคูเลี้ยงดูโมโมทาโร่ด้วยความรักอย่างยิ่ง โมโมทาโร่เองก็เป็นเด็กดี น่ารัก เขาเติบโตขึ้นเป็นเด็กชายที่ขยันขันแข็ง ว่านอนสอนง่าย ทำให้สองตายายรักเขามากขึ้น มากขึ้นทุกวัน
โมโมทาโร่น้อยได้เติบใหญ่จนอายุสิบห้าปี เป็นชายหนุ่มที่มีพละกำลังมากและแข็งแรงที่สุดกว่าชายหนุ่มคนใดในหมู่บ้าน แต่แล้ววันหนึ่งก็เกิดเรื่องร้ายขึ้น
วันหนึ่งมียักษ์จากเกาะยักษ์ออกอาละวาด ขโมยข้าวของและเสบียง สร้างความเดือดร้อนให้ชาวบ้านไปทั่ว ชาวบ้านนั้นต่างก็พอกันหวาดกลัว โมโมทาโร่ซึ่งแข็งแรงมากจึงตัดสินใจบอกกับสองตายายว่า เขาจะเป็นผู้ขออาสาไปปราบยักษ์ที่เกาะยักษ์เอง สองตายายนั้นแม้ไม่อยากให้ไปแต่โมโมทาโร่ก็ยืนยันอย่างหนักแน่น สองตายายจึงต้องยอมตามความตั้งใจของโมโมทาโร่
คุณยายจึงได้ทำขนมคิบิดังโงะ ซึ่งก็คือข้าวต้มกับลูกเดือยไว้ แล้วมาทำเป็นกอนกลมคล้ายโมจิ เมื่อสัตว์ตัวใดกินแล้วจะทำให้สัตว์เชื่อง คุณยายให้ขนมคิบิดังโงะนี้แก่โมโมทาโร่เพื่อจะได้เป็นเสบียงในระหว่างการเดินทางด้วย ส่วนคุณตาก็มอบดาบกับเกราะให้เป็นอาวุธ หลังจากนั้นโมโมทาโร่จึงได้ออกเดินทาง
ระหว่างทาง โมโมทาโร่ได้พบกับสุนัขมาท้ารบ โมโมทาโร่คิดหาทางออก เขานึกถึงขนมของคุณยาย

ว่าแล้วโมโมทาโร่ก็เอาขนมคิบิดังโงะให้สุนัขกิน พอสุนัขกินเข้าไปก็ร้องออกมาว่า
♫ คิบิดังโงะ คิบิดังโงะ กินแล้วไม่วุ่นวาย เชื่องและว่าง่าย สบายใจ คิบิดังโงะ คิบิดังโงะ กินขนมยายสบายใจ โฮ่งๆ ♫
เมื่อกินอิ่มจนพุงป่องเจ้าสุนัขก็เชื่องต่อโมโมทาโร่ทันที และก็ยังขอติดตามโมโมทาโร่ไปปราบยักษ์ด้วย ว่าแล้วทั้งสองก็เดินทางไปด้วยกัน
ต่อมาโมโมทาโร่กับสุนัขได้พบกับลิงตัวหนึ่ง พอเจ้าลิงเห็นสุนัขเข้า ด้วยสัญชาตญาณของมัน เจ้าลิงตัวนั้นก็ท้าสู้กับสุนัข โมโมทาโร่เห็นไม่ได้การจึงเอาขนมคิบิดังโงะก้อนหนึ่งให้ลิงนั้นกิน พอเจ้าลิงกินเข้าไปก็ร้องออกมาว่า
♫ คิบิดังโงะ คิบิดังโงะ กินแล้วไม่วุ่นวาย เชื่องและว่าง่าย สบายใจ คิบิดังโงะ คิบิดังโงะ กินขนมยายสบายใจ เจี๊ยกๆ ♫
แล้วเจ้าลิงก็เชื่องต่อโมโมทาโร่ทันที โมโมทาโร่จึงบอกเรื่องที่จะไปเกาะยักษ์ให้ฟัง เจ้าลิงเลยขอติดตามไปด้วย
ทั้งสามเดินทางต่อมาไม่นาน โมโมทาโร่ สุนัข แล้วก็เจ้าลิง ก็ได้พบกับไก่ฟ้า
สัตว์ทั้งสามตัวท้าสู้กัน โมโมทาโร่จึงเอาขนมคิบิดังโงะให้ไก่ฟ้ากิน แล้วไก่ฟ้าก็ร้องว่า
♫ คิบิดังโงะ คิบิดังโงะ กินแล้วไม่วุ่นวาย เชื่องและว่าง่าย สบายใจ คิบิดังโงะ คิบิดังโงะ กินขนมยายสบายใจ ♫
เมื่อไก่ฟ้าได้กินขนมคิบิดังโงะก้อนสุดท้ายลงไป ไก่ฟ้าจึงเชื่องต่อโมโมทาโร่ และเมื่อไก่ฟ้ารู้ว่าโมโมทาโร่จะไปเกาะยักษ์ ก็ขอเดินทางไปด้วย
ในที่สุดทั้งสี่ก็เดินทางมาถึงทะเล โมโมทาโร่ได้ลงมือต่อเรือขึ้นมาหนึ่งลำ จนสามารถเดินทางไปถึงยังเกาะยักษ์ ที่เกาะแห่งนี้มียักษ์มากมาย และป้อมปราการก็แข็งแรงมาก ไก่ฟ้าจึงอาสาบินขึ้นไปเหนือป้อมปราการ เปิดประตูป้อมปราการได้สำเร็จ โมโมทาโร่ สุนัข แล้วก็ลิงเข้าไปในป้อมได้
“เจ้ายักษ์ใจร้ายจงฟังข้า ข้ามาที่นี่เพื่อขอร้องให้เจ้าหยุดทำร้ายผู้คนเสียที”
“เหอะๆๆ ไม่มีทางเจ้าเด็กน้อย” ยักษ์ใจร้ายร้องสั่งสมุนของมัน “พวกเรา จับเจ้าเด็กกับพวกสัตว์เหล่านั้นมากินให้หมด ฮ่าๆๆ”
เมื่อคุยกันไม่ได้ โมโมาทาโร่จึงตะโกนบอกเพื่อนสัตว์ทั้งสามว่า
“เจ้าสุนัข เจ้าลิงและไก่ฟ้า จงต่อสู้และเอาชนะยักษ์ให้ได้”
โมโมทาโร่ พร้อมด้วยสุนัข เจ้าลิงและไก่ฟ้่าก็พากันต่อสู้กับพวกยักษ์ ไก่ฟ้าจิกศีรษะและตาของยักษ์ เจ้าลิงข่วนพวกยักษ์ เจ้าสุนัขก็ไล่กัดยักษ์ไปทั่ว ส่วนโมโมทาโร่ก็ใช้ดาบฟัน
ในที่สุดพวกยักษ์ก็พ่ายแพ้ โมโมทาโร่ให้พวกยักษ์สัญญาว่าจะไม่ทำความชั่วอีก พวกยักษ์สัญญาต่อโมโมทาโร่
หลังจากนั้นยักษ์ก็ได้นำสมบัติทั้งหมดที่ขโมยจากชาวบ้าน มาคืนให้โมโมทาโร่
โมโมทาโร่กับเพื่อนสัตว์ทั้งสามจึงพากันขนสมบัติทั้งหมดลงเรือ มุ่งหน้ากลับบ้าน เมื่อกลับมาถึงหมู่บ้าน ตายายดีใจที่โมโมทาโร่ปลอดภัย
โมโมทาโร่ได้แจกจ่ายสมบัติคืนให้แก่ชาวบ้านทุกคน ชาวบ้านต่างยกย่องในความกล้าหาญของโมโมทาโร่และเพื่อนๆ

Once upon a time, two lovely and kind grandparents were in a village in Japan. They were hard-working and helped each other earn a living. The couple had been together for a long time but had no children. As time passed and they became old, Grandma and Grandpa then asked heaven to bless them with a child.
“These two grandparents are good people who have never committed sins. I think it’s time we angels grant them a wish.”
♫ (Whoever does good will be rewarded. Even if we don’t see results today, we must hold on to our virtue. La-la-la, and one day, this goodness will lead us to great things.) ♫
"Abracadabra!"
Finally, heaven took pity on the two grandparents for the good deeds they had always done.
That day, Grandma went to the river to wash her laundry as usual. There was a big fruit floating down the water. It was.
“A giant peach!” Grandma exclaimed and quickly put down the laundry to find a way to take the giant peach back home to show Grandpa.
Grandma picked up the peach, went home, and called out to Grandpa.
“Grandpa, come and see this quickly.”

The grandparents were very happy and raised him with great love. As for Momotaro, he was also a sweet boy with a good nature. He grew up to be a hard-working and docile boy, making both his grandparents love him, even more every day.
Little Momotaro had grown up to the age of fifteen.
He was a young man who had more power and strength than any other young man in the village. But then, one day, something bad happened.
One day, a giant from The Giant Island went on a rampage. He stole belongings and supplies from the villagers, creating trouble all over the village. All the villagers were frightened. Momotaro, a very strong boy, decided to tell the two grandparents that he would volunteer to defeat the giant on the island himself. The two grandparents didn't want him to go, but Momotaro insisted. So, they had no choice but to agree with his decision.
So, Grandma made Kibi Dango, which is boiled rice with millet and rounded into a ball like a mochi. Whichever animal eats it will become tame. Grandma gave this Kibi Dango to Momotaro as a snack for the trip. Next, Grandpa gave him a sword and armor to protect himself. After that, Momotaro began his journey.
Along the way, Momotaro met a dog that challenged him to battle, but he figured out a way out. He thought of Grandma's sweets.

Then Momotaro gave Kibi Dango to the dog. When the dog ate it, he cried out,

After eating until his belly bulged, the dog immediately became obedient to Momotaro. And also asked to follow Momotaro to defeat the giant. Then, the two of them traveled together.
Later, Momotaro and the dog met a monkey. When the monkey saw the dog, his intuition made him challenge the dog to a fight. Momotaro quickly gave the monkey a loaf of the Kibi Dango. As soon as the monkey ate it, he cried out,

The monkey immediately became tame. So Momotaro told him about going to Giant Island. The monkey asked to follow along.
The three traveled not long when Momotaro, the dog, and the monkey met a pheasant. The three animals started challenging each other. So, Momotaro gave the Kibi Dango to the pheasant. And the pheasant cried out,

After eating the last Kibi Dango ball, the pheasant became tame to Momotaro. And after finding out about Momotaro’s plans to go to Giant Island, he asks to follow along.
Finally, all four arrived at the sea. Momotaro built a ship to take them to Giant Island. There were many giants on this island, and the forts were very strong. So, the pheasant volunteered to fly up above the fortress and successfully opened the gates, allowing Momotaro, the dog, and the monkey to enter the fort.
“You mean giant; listen to me. I'm here to beg you to stop hurting people.”
“Hahaha. There's no way, child.” Then the evil giant called to his minions, “Guys, let’s catch the child and the animals and eat them all. Hahaha!”
When talking didn’t work, Momotaro then shouted at his three animal friends,
“Dog, Monkey, and Pheasant, we must fight and defeat the giant.”
Momotaro and the dog, monkey, and pheasant fought against the giants. The pheasant pecked the giants’ heads and eyes, the monkey scratched the giants, the dog chased and bit them, and Momotaro used his sword to cut them.
Finally, the giants were defeated. Momotaro made the giants promise that they would never do evil again.
After that, the giants brought back all the stolen treasures from the villagers and returned them to Momotaro.
Momotaro and his three animal friends took all the treasures onto the ship and headed home. His grandparents were glad that Momotaro returned safely.
Momotaro returned the treasure to all the villagers, and they praised him and his friends for their bravery.
And since then, Momotaro's village has always been happily ever after.
